Drawing from traditional organizing skills and Elevated Chicago’s Community Engagement Principles and Recommendations, the Logan Square community table has fought to slow gentrification and create more affordable housing choices for Latino residents. Led by our partners LUCHA and Palenque LSNA, the table secured a community benefits agreement (CBA) with a hotel developer in 2018 to hire at least 75 percent of hotel and restaurant staff from the surrounding neighborhood at a minimum wage of $17 per hour. In 2019, it celebrated an affordable housing victory with the groundbreaking for Lucy Gonzalez Parsons Apartments, a 100-unit development adjacent to the CTA Logan Square Blue Line station. In 2020, it formed the Here to Stay community land trust.
